Seniors’ Day at SM City San Pablo highlights “Oldietorium” Vintage Collection Exhibit

As a sequel to the recently concluded “Grandparents Week” celebration, the SM Cares Senior Citizens Program recently launched “Oldietorium’’ at SM City San Pablo which featured vintage pieces to show the younger generation on how things were done before.

The SM Cares Senior Citizens Program takes on projects that not only recognize the elderly’s vast contribution to their families and the nation but alleviate their stature as important members of society. Danny Chavez Director for SM Cares Program for Senior Citizens said it is the company’s commitment that its deeply rooted values care for the elderly which is consistent with SM’s thrust of being a mall for all.

The antiques on display are from Edgardo Gamo Jr. and Mylen Valena Collections and from Sulyap Gallery Café. Mr. Ed Gamo Jr. started his collection 7-8 years ago. He started collecting small items then as time goes by, he begun collecting vintage items on all genres from religious, military to glassware, furnitures to toys as long as its pleasing to his eyes. Ed Gamo jr. is also a painter and a photographer and maintains an antique shop up to this day in M. Leonor San Pablo City with his partner Mylen Valena.

As for the Collection of Sulyap Gallery Café, Mr. Roy Empalmado and Mr. Arthur Reyes’s collection of antiques started way back on the year 1985. Both collectors share the same passion of collecting the same antique pieces; both are into collecting Philippine antiques. Arthur, a pioneer collector is fascinated in Santo’s (religious icons) from century old wooden crafted Santo’s to Ivory Santo’s. Roy on the other hand is captivated by wooden primitive furnitures. Their combined wide assortment of antiques resulted in a vast collection of Philippine antiques that ever existed in the province of Laguna. From the primitive era to art nouveau, art deco, and neo classic designs, the museum reveals the historical values of the Philippine arts and antiques presented in the most visually stimulating approach.

SM City San Pablo is truly thankful to have such strong and supportive community partners who shares the same goal in highlighting the seniors. The event launched was also attended by the Osca Pamana Senior Citizen’s President Ms. Belen Dionela. (nwr)Oldietorium1
