National Book reading Day is an annual campaign that aims to encourage more young kids to read and enjoy books. Now in its 9th successful year, it is a colorful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using a Filipino children’s book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the Department of Education.
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by a Filipino author and illustrator is read simultaneously in the Mall atrium. For this year, SM Cares partnered with National Bookstore, Anvil Publishing, Vibal Publishing, UNICEF and the Department of Education in bring time honored and value filled tradition of reading books to children.
SM City San Pablo Building Admin Manager said in his welcome remarks that whether traditional or e-books, the most important part is the act of reading that nurtures the child’s imagination. SM City San Pablo PR Manager Niña Wong read the book “Two Friends, One World” to the grade 1 and 2 pupils of DLSP. City Councilor Karla Adajar was the second story book reader that gave life to the book “bumabara-bara”.
The kids read the story side by side with teachers and student teachers from DLSP. The event is an enjoyable promotes the fun of books. National Book reading day also gives value to reading and literacy. The event aims in positively contributing to child development and uplifting the level of education in our country. #SMCares #NBRD2017
